Michael started in IT (MIS in those days) working in the Computer Lab of GTCC while completing his degree in Computer Office Automation Technology (COAT), where he worked on the original IBM PCs and working part-time at Food Lion. After graduation, Michael transferred to Food Lion Headquarters in Salisbury, NC to pioneer the grocery chain into the 4680 IBM Cash Register Scanning revolution.

After laying foundations for the IBM 4680 Scanning implementation and support team, Michael took a contract position through one of the famous ComputerLand Franchises out of Greensboro / Winston-Salem to be the sole PC hardware support for Lowes Home Improvement Headquarters when they were in North Wilkesboro, NC.

Michael went out on his own in the year 2000 with one tech and handful of SMB clients including Northern Hospital of Surry County (Mount Airy). Since Michael had been trained by one of the best network cabling companies in the Triad that had the entire University North Carolina college system and many other top university and corporations, he quickly recognized the need and major problems with SMB networks done by small home-based computer guys that were causing all kinds of network problems with their systems and software because of the lack of knowledge and specifications on running ethernet cabling. In the early 2000s, Michael really was able to capitalize on a healthcare niche with a focus on SMB private practices / groups in dental, medical, optometry, ophthalmology, dermatology, cardiology, ENT Allergy Asthma, Long Term Care Pharmacies, chiropractic, veterinarian and other medical specialties, as well as other business, such as legal, construction, manufacturing, financial / banking, hospitality, Flooring, and many others. 

Dominating the Healthcare SMB Niche

Michael also became the top VAR (Value Added Reseller) and consultant for Lytec Medical Practice Medical Solutions in NC, SC, Virginia and throughout the Southeast in the early 2000’s. As Michael was converting / migrating medical specialty practices over to Lytec Medical and Altapoint Medical, he realized most of the practice Accounts Receivables were very high, so he started a Medical Insurance / Billing division and started cleaning up A/R recovery and handling their insurance and patient billing.

By 2005, Michael had about 10 employees / contractors between the IT Department and Medical Insurance / Billing Department. Unfortunately, in 2006, Michael lost everything due to ex-wife and ex-business partner, which shut down all operations. Praise God, Michael didn’t choose to stay down. He took an IT job for one of his previous managers in Myrtle Beach, SC doing IT / server / network support for mostly the hospitality / hotel resort industry for about 8 months before stepping out of the boat again on his own. Michael focused on SMB Private Healthcare practices. He was hired as a contractor by Cardio Gastro Associates of Myrtle Beach to lead the migration, training and Electronic Medical Records (EHR) / Electronic Medical Records workflows for Allscripts EMR. Michael became an Allcripts SuperUser and worked w/ all of staff to develop and customize the needed workflows and train all staff and doctors.

Since then Michael has become one of the most well known consultants in the Carolinas specializing in EHR / EMR / PMS Software for migrations / conversions, imaging and IT Network support for the healthcare industry. His “hands-on” EHR / EMR / PMS / 3D Imaging Software experience along with his ability to identify vulnerabilities and workflows for each client are unmatched in the industry. Michael has personally provided services for over 500 practices / companies over the past 30 years and some of his clients have relied on his services since the early 2000s. 

Partnering with High Point University Dental School

In the beginning of 2023, one of his dental clients that had health issues sold the practice to High Point University – Workman School of Dental Medicine. This was one of the first three practices they purchased and when they found out Michael knew all of the dental EHR / PMS / Imaging Software, they quickly offered him an interim contract.
